Do you have plants in your office or home and notice strange colors appearing on the leaves that are not normally part of the plant’s appearance? Or is your plant starting to die?
Plants depend on a lot of different factors for their health. Perhaps the plant is not in the right spot, or is it getting too much or too little water?
Pay attention to certain signals in a timely manner
If you want to make sure your plants are healthy, it is important to recognize certain signs that may indicate a problem. You don’t even have to have special green fingers to do this; anyone can keep plants healthy simply by keeping their eyes open.
We have listed the most common signs for you, so that you can take timely action to save your plants.
Problem: The leaves of the plant are falling off too much
If a plant loses leaves quickly and frequently, there may be several causes. The plant may be in a spot with too little light, or it may be underwatered. Too little light is a problem that occurs mostly during the winter months.
The solution
If the plant is not getting enough light, trymoving it to a brighter spot. Is the plant not getting enough water? Then water the plant liberally first of all, until the potting soil is completely moist. Then read some information about the amount of water this particular plant should get and try to follow this schedule properly, and it should be fine in the future.
Problem: Houseplant shows brown leaf tips
Plants may develop brown spots over time. Is this the case? Then a plant usually has too little light.
The solution
Try placing the plant in a spot with more (indirect) sunlight.
Problem: Your plant has yellow leaves or holes in the leaves
Does your plant have yellow leaf tips, or are the leaves turning brownish-yellow and you can see small holes? If so, the plant actually has too much light.
The solution
Move the plant slightly farther from the window, or in a different location. It is best to place the houseplant at a window facing east or west, as this light is less bright than south.
Problem: The plant has more grayish and sticky leaves
Can you detect a strange sticky gray substance on your plant? Then chances are you are dealing with aphids. The gray goo secreted by aphids is also called meal or honeydew. Over time, fungi can also grow on it. Taking action is therefore necessary.
The solution
Separate the affected plant from the other plants to prevent further infestation. Remove the affected parts and in bad cases you can buy special remedies for aphids. Read the label carefully before applying the remedy so that you do not harm your plant.
Problem: Your plant shows obvious yellow leaf edges
Your plant may show yellow leaf edges if the air is too dry. This is especially common in plants that come from rain forests.
The solution
Make sure the humidity in a room is slightly higher. Is this not possible? Then spray the plant more often.
Problem: The plant does not grow or grows very slowly
Is your plant not growing well? And is it looking a little sad? Then your plant may be deficient in nutrition.
The solution
You can give some plant food in this case . Ask in the specialty store which kind is best for your houseplant. Or you can fertilize the plant. In this case, make sure that you do not do this during the plant’s dormant period.
