Many diverse studies have amply proven the usefulness of plants in the office. Plants clean the air in a room, have a calming and stress-reducing effect, and thus can substantially enhance the work performance of your staff.

High time for more green in the office, then. But how do you go about it? Where do you want to place plants? Which plants and how do you choose them? And who will maintain these plants?

We answer these and other questions for you in this article. So that you have a clear picture of the many options open to you to make your office environment greener as well.

1. Just old-fashioned: loose plants here and there

Putting plants in the office doesn’t have to be complicated at all. Basically, you can just walk into a garden center and pick up a few plants.

It is then very important that you look up some information beforehand about the maintenance of the plants, for example, the amount of water they need and what kind of location is best. Otherwise, you run the risk that the plant will not have a long life.

Fine and low-maintenance plants for the office that also have strong air-purifying properties include the lady’s tongue and the spoon plant. Succulents and cacti are also immensely popular, partly because of their super easy maintenance. And for an extra fine tropical ambiance, choose a plant like the golden palm or palm lily.

2. Hanging plants: useful for small spaces

Not every room in the office is the same size, so it is not always possible to place every plant just like that. For somewhat smaller spaces and rooms, hanging and climbing plants are a nice alternative.

You can hang these beautiful specimens on the wall, place them on a narrow cabinet or grow them from the ground up. Interesting options include the hole plant, philodendron and rock coral.

3. A tree in the office is totally hip these days

Do you want a plant that really makes a statement? Perhaps in the welcome area of your office, such as a bright atrium? Then it’s definitely worth considering a tree(s).

These provide any room with a natural and soothing look in an instant and are sure to catch high eyes. Consider options such as the olive tree, money tree or elephant leg.

4. Prefer something more unique? Try a green wall!

A green wall is again suitable for smaller spaces because it takes up virtually no space. But a green wall is also well suited as an eye-catcher inside and outside.

You can go in any direction, including special designs such as your logo. Moreover, green walls are available both natural and synthetic, the latter logically requiring virtually no maintenance. However, you also enjoy less of the benefits of living plants, such as air-purifying properties and photosynthesis.

5. Vertical vegetable garden to keep up

The latter option is especially nice for businesses with a hospitality component, or just an office where there are employees with green thumbs.

Your own vegetable garden provides fresh herbs and perhaps even some fruits and vegetables. To consume this after a while is of course very nice, if you and your team have put joint effort into the little garden!
